Ode to an Abode. Moorhens nestling in the bull rushes. Willows weeping on the surface of the pond. The boat tucked up still as if for winter. Hollyhocks standing tall on the bank, a flourish of purple poppies waiting to burst up along the white front border. The wind whipping it's way through the statuesque sycamore. A gentle breeze flowing through the meadow. Ahead the rolling countryside a quilt made of patchwork orchards, hops and wheat turning golden as i speak. The bees, the birds - finches, tits, starlings, a jay, a woodpecker, a red kite taking flight. The secret garden that is behind throws up a mass of rosemary, thyme, marjoram, sage, chives and parsley whilst underneath the cherry tree the decking lies baking hotter even than the tub. The tall, majestic conifers rule the roost among the lines of box and lavender and the pheasants that have become friends meander freely into the field that wraps around us strewn with the blueness of linseed flowers strong enough to match the sky. Among the smell of honeysuckle and jasmine be uplifted, invigorated, rested and relaxed. Sit back, take a dip, take a sip. Be pampered, be spoilt, be chilled and filled- with goodness, happiness and cheer.

Summer is coming. It is- i promise!!

We're coming out of hibernation me thinks!! Here at Pond Cottage (the funkiest boutique B&B in East Kent)it's beena typically quiet spring but the guests who have emerged from their winter nooks and crannies have been fab! I've got a string of loveley bookings ahead but itf you are thinking about coming to stay i am sure we can alsways find a date to suit..... The other day i discovered yet another magical walk starting just over the lane, in the orchards that we overlook....the bluebells may be gone by the time you come but it will still be a wonderful
wood to explore. Hope to see you soon.

Food, glorious food...

Quietish weekend but had two of my favouritest guests yet!!! They didn't stop raving about what they were experiencing at Pond Cottage B&B...in an intelligent way of course. Pix of what they ate are attached....real, fabulous quality ingredients making, i hope, real, fabulous menus. Kent and East Kent in particular is a foodie heaven...we are spoilt by having so many superb local food producers/suppliers. If you didn't see it check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01gflcy - Our Food shown on BBC2 last week - and understand a little about what i mean. I lived in London for 25 years and am pretty demanding when it comes to standards, quality etc regarding most things inc grub. Now when i eat in London i do tend to find myself being quite critical because of what i have got used to in 7 years in east Kent. Apart from the most amazing food this little corner of the country has so many other things to offer- stunning countryside, bleak countryside, sandy beaches, pebble beaches. History in abundance and culture overflowing...."our Tracey" (she of Emin) was also giving us a rather nice plug last week on the One Show - if you havent been before come here and visit Margate - home to the Turner Contemporary and hometown of Ms Emin. Only a stone's throw from Kent's truly boutique B&B - Little Funky places to stay very own Pond Cottage B&B.
